    One the way back to Wilpena Pound one evening the moon was going down. The tree in the dip of the perimeter of the pound stood out. It is by the light of the silvery moon. It was so serene and the night sky was amazing with very bright stars. I think it was nature showing a softer side of the Flinders Ranges but the tree by itself, also emphasised the isolation of the area. The silhouette of the image also hides a lot of the unknown of the area. by: sarah1971 Views[713] This tree along the creek bed captured me from the moment I saw it. It looks like the trunk of a person (no arms of course!). It is a weathered trunk; something that has stood the test of time and seemingly will continue to do so. Is this nature's construction and way of bringing pseudo human life into the area? Is it welcoming me or keeping me away and protecting the trees further down the creek bed. Its sturdiness and grandeur cannot be ignored. Through floods and the carving of its trunk by gushing water, and no doubt fires and anything else nature can throw at it, it still stands tall and proud. With his army of friends behind. by: sarah1971 Views[442] Sunrise at Razor Back lookout. The name sounds harsh, but the beauty of the range which cannot be understated, softens it. The meandering road leading to the distant mountain range makes you feel connected to it. The vast landscape, however, makes you realise how isolated the area can be. It's an interesting juxtaposition of feelings when you're standing there, at dawn, admiring the beauty, but feeling very small and isolated. A kangaroo jumped across the road when we were there. British migrants settled here to eek out a living sheep farming and the like. What a harsh and remote place they must have thought it was.
