    On this cargo boat, there is as much food going up the Niger towards the inaccesible city that there is people dreaming about it... they all take the same little path to get on the boat... by: kraposek Views[295] One of the secrets to observe wildlife in a rainforest is to keep your eyes, ears and all your senses open. I was lucky to have spotted this pit viper resting after what seems to be like a healthy meal. by: adarshraju Views[832] When you are in a rainforest, you dont have to wait for a big mammal to see some action. There is drama unfolding all around you all the time. Here's one of those natural history moment. A spider wasp paralysing a spider(tarantula?). The wasp would then carry this spider to a nest, and lay eggs on the spider. When the eggs hatch, the baby wasps now have live food to feed on. by: adarshraju Views[935] A trekker descending Mt Kinabalu, One of the tallest peaks in S.E.Asia. Enduring all the pain hiking a steep slope in pitch darkness to be welcomed by the warmth of the morning sun, you'r on top of the world in the true sense. We spotted this Monitor Lizard during our night safari on the Kinabantan River.     Always remembering the presence of the Divine. by: adelice Views[331] The Spanish word for gentleman is el caballero, meaning- 'man on horseback'. Just outside the Spanish town of Segovia men on horseback use long poles to guide bulls to town for the festival. Although the bulls will eventually be killed and butchered it is the goal of these men, and considered a sign of skill, to deliver the bulls to the arena unharmed. by: 9stars Views[1921] I could no longer presume that all the, sometimes cruel, traditions were merely for the pleasure of killing bulls or baby pigs or deer. I had witnessed equal attention being paid to the care of those same animals as well as to tending to their gardens, the unearthing of onions and the picking of tomatoes. It is the pride these men take in being the master of their land and using their own two hands to do so that defines them as Spanish Men. by: 9stars Views[595] The eldest of eight brothers uses a stick he picked up on the path for support on his walk after dinner. This is his families land and has been for a long time. He tells me that they planted the trees in rows because they are great connoisseurs of shade. by: 9stars Views[538] One of eight brothers stands at the entrance to a small kitchen overseeing the preparation of the days feast. He seems dissatisfied and his wife tells me that, although he would never admit to the defeat, it's because his youngest brother caught bigger cangrejo de río (crayfish) then he did. She winks when she tells me this and every time he shifts impatiently or makes a hurumphing sound she looks at me and we giggle. by: 9stars Views[530]
     
    The whole, roast, suckling pig is served with a salad consisting of lettuce, tomato and onion picked from the garden and then drizzled with olive oil. I'm taken by the simplicity of the dishes. It is a reflection of the people and the place...straight forward, close to it's origins and full of flavor. by: 9stars Views[516]
