    Andean Toilette The owner of this liberian dog turns back to the sound of my shutter and stares, while his partner does the number 2. by: luigiluigi Views[857] The inscription below this crucifix implores the passerby to venerate this ancient symbol. What is going on in the life of the man who walks by it? Is the book in his hand a bible or a journal? Is he a believer in God? Where is he going, and why does he wear that expression of contentment? What songs play in his ears as he walks the streets of the city? Is it his, or is he one of the many who come to Lima seeking fortune? Despite widespread poverty, pollution and social inequality, the city continues to attract many from the countryside seeking a better life, another passerby in this sprawling metropolis. Another bookcover to a story I'll only have read a line of. Catholicism, brought by the Spanish Conquistadors, left a deep mark on Peruvian society. The city center of Lima, home to almost a 3rd of Peru's 30 million inhabitants, radiates outwards from the Plaza De Armas, the central square from which all points in Peru are measured. Catholicism played a major role in Peruvian culture and society since conquest and in some respects it's introduction wiped clean thousands of years of knowledge and belief, leading to the death and persecution of many, and as a justification for the Spanish conquest ( Couldn’t resist taking this abstract of a stall, yet to be set up for selling wares. (just to be clear, the ‘layers’ in the the title refer to the layers of fabric/colour in the photograph – there are no digital layers (shudder!) to be seen.) by: cms79 Views[630] Taken in the beautiful village of Asilah, (North Morocco). by: cms79 Views[983] I fell in love with this spot of the village, this was my second trip back as when I looked back at my photos of the previous day, I felt that my crop was a little too tight at the base of the frame. I feel much happier with the second attempt and luckily the light was just as good for my second visit! I could have stayed here for hours… I found Chaouen really inspiring, but I also found it extremely tricky to photograph – who knew that the colour blue could be so difficult to capture – it was hard not to make it look like as though I’d set an incorrect white balance. by: cms79 Views[586]
     
    Scattered all over the streets of Chauoen are a number of drinking fountains used to cool off from the heat of the day, or to grab water for the days activities. I stumbled over a couple of them that had a cup placed on the wall waiting to be used. Obviously left there for whoever needs to quench there thirst next. I did not move the beaker, it is exactly as found. I couldn’t resist the colour of the pink against the blue wall. by: cms79 Views[608] Admittedly the light is a little cool, but it was taken in the beautiful village of Asilah, (North Morocco) which is full of winding roads and lanes, and unfortunately the sun wasn’t peaking over the rooftops at this moment. I do however like the calm this portrays… by: cms79 Views[586] Baekje Fortress Wall sunbathing in the sunlight by: allasadventures Views[727] Just like in the old days... by: allasadventures Views[1035] When I arrived down the stairs to the cellar a lady tourist was drinking water from ordinary faucet curiously placed on the wall, maybe half meter from the floor. She continued the one-hour tour of monastery not knowing that few centuries ago that wall had enclosed a small cave turning it into cistern. Even few centuries before that the cave was first shelter in the desert for the hermitage founders. Is there a better parable of faith than that of water being where once desert was? by: brka Views[746]
