    This is Mr. Soon's narrow workspace. Sharp work and a very discipline man, Mr. Soon carefully takes on the trade 6 days a week and live upstairs. He is slicing down the bamboo at equal width, to then weave to become a round bamboo divider that is going to be placed in the Dim Sum steamer - this is for his client, Cantonese Dim Sum restaurant. Back of him, is the iron grill door, torn down from his house when his house caught on fire last year, that forced the firemen to cut his grill door to do fire rescue. Thank God he was safe. Today, he still keeps it and hope to reinstall back; but we know it will never happen. Space is limited and over-exploited and workers have to share narrow and dark spaces.     Once the daily chores are completed and the days temperature begins to soar, the women retreat back to the shade where their beauty salon continues. A Himba woman's hair is drawn into dreadlocks and encased in a thick ochre casing which adds to their beauty, but it is a laborious process that requires all hands to assist removing and replacing the delicate casing every 4 weeks or so. by: benmcrae Views[1022] The Ochre is mixed with portions of thickened butter fat which is smeared all over the women's body to produce a bright red sheen. All of the females pitch in to help each other access areas that a single woman cannot. All of the Himba women share the work load in a village regardless of the task, their age or stature. by: benmcrae Views[1460] Once the women are feeling fresh again after their fragrant smoke bath they set about grinding down small stones of ochre.
