John is a voluntary nurse, because his mother was a nurse. Mercy was once a voluntary nurse but not anymore: her brother, the butcher of the village, was killed by rustlers, so now she has to replace him to produce and guarantee the meat necessary for the hospital. When John and Mercy started their job they were working in awful unhygienic conditions, sometimes with cows and sheep in the same room. Today, thanks to the mission, they work in an real hospital with even an operating theatre . They will still need time to create a perfect future, but this is a step towards it.
