![Visiting the village of Kompong Phhluk just outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia was like stepping back in time. Situated on the flood plains of the Tonle Sap lake, the world around these homes undergoes dramatic transformation from dry to wet season. In the dry season, homes tower some 10 meters high on their tall wooden stilts, yet in the wet season, water laps at their doors.
Fishing and the creation of fish paste, which is used so regularly in South East Asian cuisine, is the community’s main source of income. Everyone has a role to play in this process, and in this image a girl is chopping up the fish, separating the good and the bad before it is pounded together forming the infamous paste.
