    All over the place, you can find people sitting by the side of the road, peeling fresh water chestnuts and selling them for Y2 or Y3 a bagful.          		 The old drum tower in Xi'an. In ancient times, all walled cities had both a drum and a bell tower, the purpose of which was to keep time and maintain order and routine within the city.
