    Another portrait of a Sādhu (wondering monk), this time taken in the holy city of Varanasi, India. His right hand is raised in protest against war and violence. These holy men can be found throughout India and some of it’s neighboring countries.: by holymen, Views[2138]
         		 A holy man sits and prays at the Golden temple in Amritsar, India. This temple is an important place of worship for the Sikh faith. I set out early to make this image due to the hoards of tourist that usually crowd this temple. This allowed me to portray tranquility, peace and reflection through simple composition.     The contemporary life of this family in the Old City of Ahmedabad retains honour and privacy in often difficult conditions behind traditional customised architecture. This blue is connotative of Lord Krishna portraying subtle symbolism of religion and spirituality characteristic of the oldest surviving civilisation.          		 The laneways of the Old City in Ahmedabad hold many stories of both ancient and contemporary life. A 200 year old dwelling built up against a 400 year old building joined to 600 year old architecture provides a visual feast of texture and colour.          		 The city of Ahmedabad is famous for their Kite Flying festival in January. The string of the kites is dyed pink and laced with glass powder to competitively contest with other participants from the rooftops. This is a celebration of the end of the winter months welcoming in summer.
