         		 The contemporary life of this family in the Old City of Ahmedabad retains honour and privacy in often difficult conditions behind traditional customised architecture.     The laneways of the Old City in Ahmedabad hold many stories of both ancient and contemporary life. The string of the kites is dyed pink and laced with glass powder to competitively contest with other participants from the rooftops.     Making everyday chores seem like a peaceful meditation I wanted to capture the sheer joy and colour each woman in Tordi Gat emanated. I aimed in capturing the sense of harmonious sisterhood amongst these women and also bring forth their sense of individualism - from their contrasting garments. Although a laborious task, it is a purposeful role in a village where job opportunities were considered limited and few. A religious custom that originally gave Devadasi women status and yet over the centuries has deteriorated to a life of prostitution and the fear of HIV.          		 Farida.... A single mother supporting her child invited my two friends and I for lunch in her home, she didn’t have much food but insisted on welcoming us to her stories and her life. For a few hours we were blessed with her laughter, positive outlook and awareness of what is important to her amidst a village that holds great poverty.          		 A tin for change... This image I hold dear to my heart and have framed and printed above my bed. The Hampi area had been recorded by Portuguese traders in the 16th century as a place hustling and bustling with life, food and even jewels. Nowadays, I visited to find many a homeless man, each day, bearing just the clothes on his back and a tin for change.
