         		 The cow is a holy animal in India. In the Spiti valley where vegetation is scarce and pastureland almost non-existent, the cows have to be extremely resilient, especially in the cold winter months. The Spitians consider the cow and extremely important animal.          		 The multi-colored landscape in the village of Mudh (seen at the bottom center of the picture – if you peer really hard) in the Pin Valley is caused due to the mineral content in the rocks. The village of Mudh is also the starting point for the Pin-Parvati trek. Here trekkers stock up on supplies and trekking gear before they set out.          		 Bus Drivers hold the most important job in the valley. The villages are far out and connected by roads that are not remotely like the German autobahns. A normal day would see people loading granite slabs, LPG cylinders, wooden columns, and sometimes, even sheep in the busses.          		 Watching the sun set over the Pin River bed can be a very rewarding experience for a patient photographer. On a lucky day, one can spot ibex’s and fox’s grazing on the scanty grass on the riverbed.     The Spitians are a deeply religious people. This is an under-construction monastery at one of the highest inhabited villages in Asia – Kibber (14,000ft). Construction work usually takes a long time in these regions due to logistical issues cause by the altitude.          		 The Prayer Wheel is such a significant artifact in the lives of the Ladakhi people. It's like they're in a constant state of meditation, constantly spinning the wheel and chanting as they go about their daily tasks. One interesting detail about spinning the prayer wheel is that the wheel must actually be spun clockwise while chanting. One instinctively spins it clockwise which is actually the incorrect direction since the wheel must always be spun in the direction in which the scriptures are inscribed.: by rssarma, Views[556]
