         		 Jallikattu(Bull taming) - An ancient sport that dates to 2000 years back is still practiced in the villages around Madurai, a city in south India. In ancient days it was to prove the courage of men to win over brides. Unlike the Spanish bull fight, here the bulls are not hurt, its the tamers who risk their life for the honor of taming a bull. 'Taming' a bull means holding or clinging on to a bull till a marked distance, usually 50 feet from the gate where the bulls are let into the arena.          		 My dad, despite living in Australia for nearly 26 years, refuses to get an Australian Citizenship-one of his many passive-aggressive displays of patriotism and loyalty to his homeland. One of the things rural Australia could not offer him, being a dark-skinned man with a strange accent, was a sense of belonging.          		 This was taken walking on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Mumbai on the 26th of December. I thought it was interesting in light of the Dec 16 Delhi gang-rape case in which the Indian Police was slammed for not doing enough to protect it's people, especially in regards to sexual violence. Also around this time, Salman Khan's (a very famous Bollywood star) manslaughter case was put on hold yet again, adding to the already ten years that it has been going on, further slamming the High Court/Indian Police. : by mattandmed, Views[475]
     
    This is also outside of the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai. A street vendor was demonstrating how to use a handheld vegetable slicer and somehow, this elderly chap in a white kurta got a hold of one of them. I think he played with it for a few minutes before he handed it back and made a comment about
         		 Bombay was a city of sporadic beauty and entertainment. While I was walking outisde of the Jehangir Art Gallery after seeing both tribal Bastar statues and contemporary Indian photography, I saw this cartoonist working his magic much to the delight of the locals who looked on with incredible interest.          		 Mumbai is actually an island connected to mainland Maharastra by a series of roads. This is at the hook of Mumbai at Girgaum Chowpatty (Girgaum Beach). The whole stretch has this ongoing bench where hundreds of people come together and sit to see the beautiful pink, Bombay sunset and stay happily until twilight.          		 A holy man sits and prays at the Golden temple in Amritsar, India. This temple is an important place of worship for the Sikh faith. I set out early to make this image due to the hoards of tourist that usually crowd this temple. This allowed me to portray tranquility, peace and reflection through simple composition.     Taken outside of the Annamalaiyar Temple in Tamal Nadu, India. This scene was apart of a Hindu ceremony where holy men would lay down offerings to the deity Shiva.
