Surviving Naples, Part 3: The Art of Eating Alone

ITALY | Tue, 14 Jul 2015 | By chloebruce | Views [931]

So it was finally day 30. The last full day before we headed home. The trip had seemed to last an age, but also, now it seemed to be over too soon. I was so relieved to finally be getting away from my friend. The tense silences, the loneliness, the passive ... Read more >

Surviving Naples, Part 2: Eruptions

ITALY | Mon, 13 Jul 2015 | By chloebruce | Views [667]

I wish I could say this was a bad first impression of Naples, but it was a pretty accurate one. Everywhere looked like that neighbourhood. Dirty, dingy, terrifying. The only part of Naples that is clean is the metro- the central stops are decorated with ... Read more >

Surviving Naples, Part 1: Staying Alive

ITALY | Sun, 12 Jul 2015 | By chloebruce | Views [612]

We got a bus from Bari to Naples for the sake of our wallets. I watched out the window as the golden fields grew more and more fertile and the great Vesuvius grew closer and more imposing. Our first view of Naples was a city of skyscrapers, construction ... Read more >

ITALY | Mon, 18 Apr 2011 | By drmitch | Views [770]

Determined to see St Peters & climb the dome before leaving Rome, I rose early and headed back to the Vatican for the third time. It was totally worth the effort. I joined the line that had already formed just before 8am to scale the 600 stairs to ... Read more >

This is my favorite picture from the entire trip! Also taken in the Railes, we walked through the entire village to give a propane gas tank to one of the residents so she could cook for her family. One the way back from visiting the lady, I was amazed to see how connected everyone was. This was the type of village where whole families-- parents, uncles, cousins, and grandparents-- all lived together. They understood what it meant to literally put family first, since they were in such close proximity to each other. This shot is taken
