    Can you picture yourself living in a place where the nearest neighbour lives 15km away from you? Neither did Da Silva, until her husband asked her to live in the Brazilian hinterlands, also know as Sertão. Suddenly she saw herself leaving her hometown in the north of Minas Gerais, Brazil, to a complete isolated place. They build their home with bricks made of anthill sand and collected water from a stream nearby. And despite the fact there was no electricity or sanitation, they were doing fine until a one day, when both faced the biggest fear of living isolated brings: sickness. After having successive heart attacks in a week, Da Silva husband passed away. The only way Da Silva found not to drown in depression was to start working as a nanny for her ‘closest’ neighbours. This is how she met Bruna, the milkman’s daughter. Bruna’s mother worked as a planter and couldn’t take care of her daughter until the night comes. This is when Da Silva met Bruna, when she was only two years old.     Valery, a physicist by education, lives and works alone in his small studio. His wife and child had fled many years ago with Jehovah's Witnesses to a religious settlement on the East of Russia. Since that time he has no news from them. All what he has now – it’s his creative mind and magical hands. by: dishart Views[376] The elderly sit on the front porches of the houses or common verandah's to discuss various topics like the rising food prices, falling values in politics, insubordinate & disrespectful youth etc. by: photojournal Views[662] It is not uncommon to find a widowed elderly woman on the ghats of Varanasi. Most of them find a place at old age homes in the city or earn their livelihood by selling 'chai' (tea) and just live by the ghats under a temporarily arranged hut. by: photojournal Views[598] It is easy to get lost in the narrow alleys of the ancient maze like city of Varanasi and one often finds a kind smiling gentleman who patiently explains the way to reach a place. by: photojournal Views[600] On the way back from the lake I decided to have a peek into the open shops in the town. This was by far the most interesting, simply because of the amount of stuff packed into it. It was impressive, to say the least, and the owner kindly allowed me to capture him surrounded by all his goods.
