    Following sessions of Henna painting and various types of beauty treatment in the last one week, tonight is Thuraya's big day. She opt to wear a western white dress, her face will be seen by the invited ladies, friends and families, as well as showing off her nicely decorated Henna. (Due to cultural and religious reasons photographing the bride for public view is not permitted, I was allowed to take a picture of the Henna- painted feet, at least the viewers will get a glimpse of the fruit of the seven days beauty treatment). by: hawwa Views[873] Even though the Henna party is for ladies, bride's male members get a chance to congratulate her as well as donning her with decorated strings of money. Showing his appreciation that his daughter is well decorated with Henna, Thuraya's father put around her neck heart shaped notes of money. by: hawwa Views[650] Soon Thuraya's feet will be covered with the strong henna paste, starting with the soles where already a yellow stain is leaving its marks, and later her hands will also get their share of the paste. In the next two days the bride will have extra sessions of Henna painting, to get the color as dark red as possible and to add the fine pattern and decoration over the edge of the solid areas . by: hawwa Views[1173] Relatives from the groom side gather to lead the procession to the bride's house, carrying with them the bride's Henna while singing local songs and making sure the sweet smell of incense declares their presence in the neighborhood. by: hawwa Views[721] Thuraya lives in a small town in Muscat, Oman. She is a bride to be and decided to follow her town's 7days tradition of bride's beauty treatment. During that week, the bride stays veiled, and only seen by her immediate family members, everyone else will just have a glimpse of her feet or hands as appropriate. Thuraya already had two days of body cleansing followed by rubbing her skin with sweet smell of sandal wood paste, and tonight she will have her feet and hands painted with the paste of ground henna leaves which will leave on her skin a dark red color once dry. by: hawwa Views[779]
     
    I chanced upon this bunch of kids along the back streets of Yarkand (Xinjiang, Western China) participating in what seems to be the most popular childhood activity in town. It requires a deck of round cards and the players' ability to toss each card against the ground perpendicularly so that it would bounce back up and override the opponent's card. Watching them in complete indulgence makes me realize; that games and fun take form in the simplest possible way, and does not always have to involve the latest electronic gadgets.     One of the things I remember most about this place is its food. Without using an enormous variety of ingredients, the women manage to create remarkable flavors in their cuisine.
