Tomorrow is our last day at Benslow. We have had hot summer weather all week, very calm and surprisingly humid. The gardens around the house are beautiful, and include a large vegetable patch used for our meals. Yesterday we had fresh broad beans ... Read more >

VOULEZ DÉJÀ VU? 6

Tue, 15 Jul 2014 | By countryboy | Views [481] | Comments [3]

Phewski! The leaking of my missives onto his World Nomads page has been a plus. Judging by the comments, everyone just thinks it's some incredibly self-indulgent pastiche. So. No harm done. Nonetheless, I've moved again and am sending this with triple ... Read more >

Tonight the Rose Consort played a very generous program of 6 and 3 part music by Parsons, Ferabosco, Byrd, Philips, Gibbons, Tomkins, Ward, Jenkins, Lawes and Purcell. Quite a feast.

The course started on Sunday evening, and as of Monday we have had 6 coached sessions so far. We are fitting in quite well with the other players, and learning some excellent tips from the tutors who are members of The Rose Consort, the same group we ... Read more >

Sat, 12 Jul 2014 | By joanimil | Views [73]

Took train to London. Ed is looking rather stronger. We are only here one night before catching the train to Benslow to the Viol Summer Course.  Benslow is a mansion bequeathed in a will by a generous patron, for the specific purpose of running ... Read more >

Well bugger me sideways. I don't know the How and I'm starting to be less sure about the Who, but somebody has planted a cyber-tracker in The Cloud and virtually knows my every virtual move. I'm livid.   Yet again, my last ... Read more >

Planning

Fri, 11 Jul 2014 | By harrisonjj | Views [402]

For me the planning stage of a trip is almost as great as the trip itself.  Trawling over maps with a highlighter and permi pen, making kit lists, then making more kit lists without all the stuff you don't really need etc etc.   Scotland ... Read more >

Sleeping with the sun

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 | By joanimil | Views [153]

In Yorkshire the sun is setting VERY SLOWLY at 9.30. Last night we had a beautiful sunset but it took ages. Not like at home where it only lasts seconds. Consequently at 10.30 there is still lots of light in the sky. But here's the rub, it is popping ... Read more >

Thu, 10 Jul 2014 | By countryboy | Views [474] | Comments [4]

Brilliant. Some finger-licking hackmeister infiltrated my emails and posted my encrypted message to you as a frickin blog entry. I'm never using Firewall-Free Fred's Internet Café services again. I should have flinched when I saw Nachos ... Read more >

VOULEZ DÉJÀ VU? 3

Wed, 9 Jul 2014 | By countryboy | Views [513] | Comments [5]

It is with great excitement that I write to you, Ms Cress. The blogs are found.   I know. I know. I, too, was at my wit's end. When we never heard anything after just two blogs, I feared the worst. But as you know, hope is the one thing ... Read more >

Harpsichord recital at Handel House

Tue, 8 Jul 2014 | By joanimil | Views [194]

This was a treat! A harpsichord recital on a fine reproduction of Handel's harpsichord, in the actual room on the second floor where he rehearsed with his musicians. The room is tiny, fitting only 28 chairs but we went early and had seats in the front ... Read more >
