Hot (hottest place on earth), low (282 feet below sea level) and very dry. And like everything in the States so far, it is B.I.G. Not much death though, which I guess is probably a good thing. Sand dunes, stripy rocks, canyons and salt flats. We ... Read more >

We arrived in Los Angeles in time for Oscar night, and even though I was incredibly excited to be there, I had forgotten my award-winning frock, so we decided to pick up a
rental car and head out of town. After taking a few wrong turns out of the ... Read more >

"Davy's on the road again Wearin' different clothes again.." Who WAS that? Blue Oyster Cult? REO Speedwagon? Manfred Mann's Earthband? Whatever, as we say here in America; it pretty much describes where we are pretty succinctly - on the road ... Read more >

![We spent the day (and night) on Gulangyu Island, which is a small (one squared km) tourist island just off the coast of Xiamen Island.
The island became a foreign enclave in 1842 after the signing of The Treaty of Nanking (which marked the end of the first Opium War between Britain and China) and remained so until 1949 when the Chinese Communist party took power. The island was abandoned and thus left to it's original inhabitants, buildings intact. Most of the buildings are in a state of disrepair, but some are in the process of being restored.
Its home to a lot of very unique architecture (a mixture of Victorian and Qing Dynasty Chinese) and welcomes many thousands of tourists every year.: by mazystar, Views[743] We spent the day (and night) on Gulangyu Island, which is a small (one squared km) tourist island just off the coast of Xiamen Island.
