    Rialto, Venezia by: chiacchierare Views[220] This was the first thing I saw when I arrived in St. Gilgen, on lake Wolfgang in the Austrian region of Salzkammergut. It is a charming small town nestled between the Dachstein Alps. This old cable car brought tourists and skiers to the peaks with a magnificent view over seven different alpine lakes in the region. Unfortunately the weather limited visibility, and the charge to use the cable car was a little steep, so I decided to give it a miss. It did give a mysterious atmosphere to the place, and the fog cleared momentarily to catch a glimpse of the sunny mountains, but I doubt the skis attached to that gondola have seen much snow up there that day. by: demonani Views[608] Riding the gondola down to breakfast on this absolutely beautiful bluebird day. by: beren Views[477] Gander by Tradition The gondolas are an integral part of Venetian culture. No matter where I walked - over a bridge, along a canal, sitting by the water's edge, there was a gondolier and his gondola, taking lovebirds or a giddy group of friends drinking up the beautiful sights on their tour. I saw this unmanned gondola and stopped to admire the detail of its craftsmanship. It looked a lonely, but perhaps it was enjoying a break from the pressure it no doubt feels! by: gemearly Views[777]
     
    Silent Witness The job of a gondolier must be quite the happy one, what with getting to witness marriage proposals, serenading couples, dodging Vaporetto's.... by: gemearly Views[568] Early morning.
